Notice of Election Published for Kingsley Parish Council

Following requests from ten electors, the Returning Officer has today published a Notice of Election for the election of two Parish Councillors for Kingsley Parish Council. Nomination papers must be submitted by 4.00pm on Friday 17 July 2026. If the election is contested, polling day will take place on Thursday 13 August 2026.

Serving as a parish councillor is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference to the local community. Councillors help shape local services, represent residents’ views and make decisions that affect the future of the parish.

It is important to note that, even after this election, there will still be three remaining vacancies on the Parish Council. These vacancies can be filled by the Council through the statutory co-option process, meaning there will continue to be opportunities for residents to become parish councillors regardless of the outcome of this election.

Residents considering whether to stand should also be aware of the financial implications of a contested election. If more than two valid nominations are received and the election proceeds to a poll, the cost to the Parish is estimated to be approximately £6K-£6.5K. As parish councils fund their activities through the local precept, this cost is ultimately borne by local taxpayers.

This is particularly relevant because the Council’s scheduled ordinary elections are due to take place in May 2027, in approximately ten months’ time. Those elections may also incur similar election costs, meaning the parish could potentially face election expenditure on two occasions within a relatively short period, which could impact upon the precept next year.

Anyone interested in standing for election or finding out more about the role of a parish councillor is encouraged to contact the Elections Team at Cheshire West and Chester Council or speak to the Parish Council Clerk for further information.

Further details, including nomination deadlines and voter registration information, are contained within the Notice of Election published by the Returning Officer here.
